I use Spanish for most classroom communication from the start, supporting beginners to understand and express a real idea while grammar and vocabulary serve the message.
Explore the collectionI teach Spanish from Year 7 to IGCSE, using Spanish for most classroom communication. Beginners may find the first lessons uncomfortable, but I want them to hear and use the language from the start, with support that helps them understand what is happening.
Grammar matters because it helps pupils make meaning, but a perfectly formed sentence is not useful if the pupil has nothing they want to say. I value attempts that communicate a real idea, even when the grammar still needs work. That gives us something purposeful to respond to and improve.
I look for resources that connect language with an audience and a message. A short prompt or model can help pupils begin, while a follow-up asks what they meant and how they might say it more clearly. I want grammar and vocabulary to serve communication, so pupils can speak and write with increasing independence.
