A little about me

I lead an early years group and coordinate planning across its year level. At the end of a busy day, I value a clear idea I can understand and prepare for the next morning. Too many alternatives can make a simple decision harder, so I look for guidance that tells me what to try first and what I might need to notice.

A calm start matters, especially when children are settling into a new routine. I want activities to be practical and sensitive to the group’s readiness, with space for the teacher to adjust the pace. If something is not working, the next move should be to observe and adapt rather than follow a plan simply because it was written down.

When I share ideas with colleagues, I want the preparation to be straightforward and the purpose easy to explain. A resource can help us begin with a useful prompt, but it cannot decide what each child needs. I prefer a small number of well-chosen options that allow the teaching team to act, notice the response and make a considered change.

How I approach a lesson

  1. Choose one usable starting idea instead of presenting too many options.

  2. Adjust settling activities to the group’s readiness.

  3. Review the response and make a practical next change.
