Deputy headteacher and Year 5 teacher
I plan a two-year rolling curriculum with clear subject maps and adaptable sequences, while asking what support helps an anxious pupil feel ready to take part in class.
Explore the collectionI am a deputy headteacher and teach Year 5. I help plan a rolling curriculum that gives pupils a full range of topics without repeating the same sequence for a child who stays in the school across two years. A clear map helps teachers understand what comes next and how subjects fit together.
I also want staff to look beyond the visible behaviour when a pupil seems anxious. Managing the moment may be necessary, but it is useful to ask what support would help the child feel ready to take part. That question can guide a calmer response and help us notice whether the curriculum, routine or situation is contributing to the difficulty.
I look for resources that hold together across both years of the cycle and give teachers room to adapt. A plan should be detailed enough to coordinate learning but clear enough for colleagues to use. I value language that helps adults understand a pupil’s needs while keeping safeguarding and personal information within the right professional context.

Wellbeing and personal development
Name a feeling, record something noticed outdoors and describe one example of teamwork using a drawing, gesture or short note.
Teaching and classroom support
Arrange routine steps in a chosen order and use the Now, Next and Finished areas to make the current and upcoming step visible.
Languages and literacy
Use a staged checklist and agreed editing marks to identify possible changes in punctuation, grammar, cohesion and vocabulary, then give feedback about the writing rather than the writer.
