Year 1 teacher and Physical Education lead
Children can handle materials, explain an idea and take part physically while their phonics and number learning becomes more structured.
Explore the collectionI teach Year 1 and lead Physical Education. The move from Reception should not mean that movement and talk disappear from the classroom. Children can handle materials, explain an idea and take part physically while their phonics and number learning becomes more structured.
I look for ways to make the day active and purposeful. In the classroom, movement or a practical object can help children engage with a new idea. In Physical Education, pupils need a clear task and time to practise so that confidence grows alongside skill.
I value resources that recognise different starting points and give every child a useful way to join in. A short routine, movement prompt or practical example can support participation without losing the learning purpose. I want children to develop comfort with being active and to see physical learning as part of the school day.
