A little about me

I teach Year 3 and lead Computing and Design Technology. At this stage, pupils are increasingly reading to learn, so I want afternoons to build knowledge across subjects and give children useful material to think about.

In Computing, I care that pupils understand what a computer is doing rather than simply follow a sequence of clicks. A question about inputs, instructions or outputs can help them connect an action with the result. In Design Technology, practical making gives them another way to test an idea and see how a design works.

I value resources that support both knowledge and practical understanding. A short text, worked example or task can give the class a common starting point, while pupils have time to explain what they noticed. I want the activity to make the underlying idea clearer rather than treat a device or tool as the learning goal.

How I approach a lesson

  1. Build knowledge through purposeful reading.

  2. Ask what a computer is doing, not only what to click.

  3. Use practical design to test an idea.
