A little about me

I support Year 2 phonics and reading fluency. Pupils benefit from repeated opportunities to read and revisit sounds, but the practice needs to fit the point they are working on. I want to notice which prompt helps and when a pupil may need another approach.

Keeping clear reading records can help the teacher see how practice is going. Those notes should describe what the pupil can do and what might help next, rather than define them by a level or rank. When possible, family communication should use language that makes sense to the people reading at home.

I support communication with Sylheti-speaking families and value the chance to discuss reading in a familiar language. A resource can help explain what to practise, but it should leave room for the family’s questions and the pupil’s interests. I look for small, practical ways to keep reading meaningful and make next steps clear.

How I approach a lesson

  1. Use focused practice to revisit phonics and fluency.

  2. Record observations that guide another teaching step.

  3. Explain home reading in language families can use.
