A little about me

I teach Year 2 and pay attention to the new demands children meet as their writing grows longer and they take on more responsibility in the classroom. They need clear expectations and time to practise, with support that helps them see what a task is asking them to do.

Assessment can help teachers compare what pupils are ready for and decide what should be taught next. I want moderation to be fair and carefully explained. Families should understand that an internal check is not the same as a statutory test, while also knowing why teachers take it seriously.

I look for resources that help pupils show their learning and help adults discuss it accurately. A writing prompt can support practice, but the teacher needs to consider the pupil’s own work and the purpose of the check. I value plain language that informs families without making an assessment sound either more or less important than it is.

How I approach a lesson

  1. Make writing expectations clear and manageable.

  2. Use moderation to support fair professional judgement.

  3. Explain the purpose and limits of assessment to families.
