Primary science specialist
I teach Science as a specialist across the primary phase, with a focus on keeping the purpose of each activity clear.
Explore the collectionI teach Science as a specialist across the primary phase, with a focus on keeping the purpose of each activity clear. Pupils need time to observe, ask questions and explain what the evidence supports. A resource can help organise that work, but it should not turn a practical or model into a guaranteed answer.
I look for opportunities to connect a scientific idea with what pupils can see or test. The teacher can ask what changed, what stayed the same and whether another explanation might fit the observation. Careful questioning helps pupils distinguish what the activity shows from what they still need to investigate.
When I choose a resource, I pay attention to the age and knowledge it actually assumes. A specialist may teach across several year groups while a particular task is intended for a narrower stage. I want descriptions to keep those two things separate, so teachers can judge whether the content fits their pupils before using it.
