A little about me

I teach an early years group where children are developing independence in everyday routines and finding new ways to communicate with one another. I value guidance that is short and concrete, whether I am thinking through a disagreement, choosing words for a family note or deciding what support to offer next.

Children’s language can grow when adults respond to what they have said and add a little more for them to try. I aim to extend a child’s words without making the original expression seem wrong. That approach gives children a model they can use while keeping the exchange connected to their own meaning and the situation around them.

I want resources that make useful next steps visible and give teachers permission to be honest when a plan needs work. A prompt can help me pause and reword a question, but the result still needs to fit the child and group in front of me. I prefer practical support that invites reflection instead of presenting a single formula.

How I approach a lesson

  1. Use concrete prompts for everyday teaching decisions.

  2. Extend a child’s words without correcting their meaning.

  3. Revise plans openly when they need more thought.
