I plan adaptable PE fitness and skills work alongside practical fixture arrangements, considering facilities, transport and lesson time while keeping the intended skill visible for different starting points.

A little about me

I lead Physical Education without an on-site playing field, so fixtures and some practical work depend on off-site arrangements. That affects the way the department plans: facilities, transport and lesson time all have to be considered before a group reaches the activity.

Within lessons, I want fitness and skills programmes that can be adapted quickly for pupils with different starting points. A plan should make the activity clear while allowing the teacher to adjust the level of challenge. Keeping it flexible is useful when the space or group changes, but the intended skill still needs to remain visible.

Off-site fixtures can be vulnerable to delays that disrupt an afternoon. I look for tight, practical logistics so that pupils’ time is used as well as possible. My work joins the organisation around PE with the teaching choices made once the group is on the court or field.

How I approach a lesson

  1. Design fitness and skills plans that can be adjusted for different starting points.

  2. Keep the target skill visible when adapting challenge or activity.

  3. Build off-site PE plans around the actual facilities and travel arrangements.
