A little about me

I support Year 1 phonics and number groups and run short keep-up sessions. Some pupils benefit from another opportunity to practise the sounds or number idea introduced earlier in the day. A brief, focused session can give them time to try again with the adult’s support.

I want practice to stay closely connected to the lesson. The teacher can identify the part a pupil is working on and decide what kind of prompt might help. A familiar routine also makes it easier for the pupil to recognise the task and focus on the learning rather than new instructions.

I look for resources that make a small group easy to organise and the next step clear. A few examples, a visual prompt or a short activity can support another attempt without turning it into a separate curriculum. I value the chance to notice what a pupil can now do and share that information with the class teacher.

How I approach a lesson

  1. Keep practice short and connected to the day’s learning.

  2. Use familiar routines for phonics and number work.

  3. Share observations with the class teacher.
