A little about me

I teach Music as a specialist across the primary phase. Working with different year groups lets me return to musical ideas in varied ways, while keeping the purpose of each lesson clear. Pupils need time to listen closely, try something out and notice what changes when they make a different choice.

I want Music to have a consistent place in the school day. A well-planned sequence can help pupils build familiarity with sounds and techniques, then create room for them to respond. The activity should offer a useful starting point without dictating that every pupil will produce the same result.

I look for resources that support active participation and make the next step easy to understand. A listening prompt, rhythm pattern or reflection question can help pupils focus, but the teacher’s judgement shapes how it fits the group. I value opportunities for pupils to describe what they hear, explain a choice and revisit an idea.

How I approach a lesson

  1. Give pupils time to listen before responding.

  2. Use a clear sequence while allowing varied musical outcomes.

  3. Invite reflection on what changed and why.
