A little about me

I teach Business across the secondary phase and lead the department. Shared unit plans give teachers a common structure, but pupils may bring different prior experiences of the subject and of its vocabulary. I want planning to make the core idea clear while leaving room for a teacher to check what the class already understands.

Business concepts become more useful when pupils can apply them to a decision or explain how one factor affects another. I look for tasks that help pupils work with a situation, identify relevant information and give a reason for their view. A question should invite analysis rather than ask pupils to repeat a definition without context.

I value resources that departments can adapt while keeping the learning purpose visible. A shared plan can support consistency, but teachers still need to respond to the pupils in front of them. I want the common structure to make collaboration easier and help us compare approaches without assuming every class begins at the same point.

How I approach a lesson

  1. Use shared plans while checking pupils’ starting knowledge.

  2. Connect Business concepts with decisions and evidence.

  3. Keep the learning purpose visible as teachers adapt a unit.
