Reception teacher and Early Years Foundation Stage lead
I connect continuous provision with phonics and number, using play, explicit teaching and observation to decide when to join children’s exploration and what to offer next.
Explore the collectionI teach Reception and lead the Early Years Foundation Stage. Continuous provision gives children time to explore, practise and return to an idea. A clear focus on phonics and number runs through the day, so play and explicit teaching support one another.
Transition begins before a child enters the classroom. Children arrive with different experiences, and families may have different questions about what school will be like. I want routines to help each child feel that the classroom is a place they can use, while giving teachers useful information about how to support them.
I look for resources that work in a play-based environment and still make learning visible. A phonics prompt, number activity or observation question can help an adult decide when to join a child’s exploration. I value planning that makes space for play while keeping the learning purpose understandable to families.
