A little about me

I lead an early years group whose next step is the move into primary school. Families can face many questions during a transition, and I want conversations to keep the child’s needs at the centre. A school’s reputation cannot tell a family on its own whether a particular setting will suit their child, so I favour factual information and careful questions over predictions or rankings.

A transition is not a single decision made on one day. Children and families need space to consider what feels right, and teachers can help by explaining processes clearly and listening to the questions being asked. I want written materials to inform those conversations without implying a particular outcome or making claims about individual schools.

In my teaching, I also value clear next steps that children can practise at their own pace. I look for resources that make a task understandable and leave room for teacher judgement. Whether I am planning an activity or preparing information for families, I try to separate what we know from what we are still deciding, then give people a useful way to continue the conversation.

How I approach a lesson

  1. Keep transition conversations focused on the child’s needs.

  2. Offer factual guidance without ranking schools or predicting outcomes.

  3. Make expectations clear while leaving room for individual decisions.
