I coordinate Science practicals with the lead technician, linking activity-specific preparation and review with shared laboratory time so the department can notice and respond to gaps early.

A little about me

Science planning involves practical work as well as the timetable that makes it possible. I lead the department and coordinate with the lead technician so required practicals can be fitted into shared laboratory time across the teaching team.

Adapted practicals need careful risk-assessment drafts. I want those documents prepared with the actual activity in view so they can be reviewed properly; a generic template is not a substitute for considering what has changed. A record of planned practicals also helps us notice early if an experience may be missed.

The point of tracking is to leave time to respond. If a required practical is at risk, the department can discuss what needs attention before the opportunity has passed. My focus is the connection between careful preparation, shared facilities and a complete science programme.

How I approach a lesson

  1. Write risk-assessment drafts against the practical as it has actually been adapted.

  2. Review the required-practical record early enough to address a possible gap.

  3. Plan laboratory access with the technician and teaching team before the practical sequence.
