A teaching sequence
Agree and communicate classroom routines through shared values, respectful conversation prompts and a class agreement.
Make a shared expectation visible. Read the picture and its words together before using the full class display.
Read the complete materialDiscuss the class statements
Discuss the six statements on page 1 and select the ones that fit the class, adapting wording with pupils where needed.
Which statement needs different wording for your class?
Practise respectful talk
Practise the page 2 phrases for taking turns, asking for clarification, using names and disagreeing kindly.
How could you disagree while responding to the other person's idea?
Link values to actions
Review the five values and connect each one to a classroom action people can see or hear.
What would someone see or hear when we include everyone?
Agree pupil and adult commitments
Complete the blank agreement with pupil and adult commitments, then decide how signatures and display will be used. Revise the wording with pupils and adults.
How will adults help pupils meet the shared agreement?
Before you teach
Look for the thinking behind an answer, choose the support your class needs and leave room for an independent response.
What to look for
Look for expectations expressed as actions pupils and adults can understand and agree to. Ask: “What would someone see or hear when we are including everyone?” Review the agreement for practical, locally appropriate language rather than treating the printed list as school policy.
Give a little support
Read the statements aloud, pair each with a concrete example and allow pupils to suggest accessible wording. Complete only a few agreement points at a time and offer private alternatives to public signing.
Take the idea further
Revisit the agreement after pupils have used it and ask which wording was clear or needs changing. Add a routine for repairing harm or asking for help, based on school policy and pupil consultation.
Things to keep in mind
The ready-worded poster is associated with Class Willow and may need adaptation. The sheet is not a behaviour policy or evidence of school agreement; involve pupils and adults and follow local safeguarding and inclusion guidance.
Keep the idea. Make it yours.
Bring your topic, learning goal and class context to PLAI™, then review what you create.

One More Question
The three pages move from a ready-made Class Willow poster to prompts for speaking together and a blank agreement. The final template asks what pupils will do, what they will stop and what grown-ups will do to help.
Book and Biscuit
For ages 7 to 11, the display joins values (respect, kindness, honesty, responsibility and perseverance) to practical routines such as taking turns and disagreeing kindly. The agreement makes adult responsibilities visible alongside pupil commitments.
Planning List
The speech frames “I would like to add” and “Can you explain that again?” give pupils language for joining a discussion. The note that more signature boxes can be added allows the agreement to fit the class size.
Five More Minutes
The example poster is a model, not an agreed rule set for every class. Co-write the blank agreement with pupils and adults, make the expectations workable, and treat signatures as evidence of the agreed page rather than proof that behaviour is guaranteed.
